— Underground Hip-Hop duo, Civil Writes, release ‘Legends of the Fall’, following 2019’s Country Rap Tunes.

If you’re a Hip-Hop fan and haven’t heard of Civil Writes, you’re doing yourself a huge disservice. The Atlanta-based duo are undoubtedly one of the more talented artists on the underground scene and they’re just getting started. In fact, since delivering Country Rap Tunes in 2019, rappers Draft and Sean Emcee started their Washed Gods podcast right in the middle of a global pandemic. Now, with the release of their latest project, Legends of the Fall, it’s clear that Civil Writes haven’t missed a beat.

Legends of the Fall is by far one of the best independent EPs to drop this year. Although the project is only 8 tracks and 18 minutes long, you walk away feeling fully satisfied. Don’t get me wrong; more music from Civil Writes is always appreciated. However, the duo did a fantastic job creating a body of work that feels both unique and complete, yet concise and digestible. So much so, upon hearing the final track, you feel as though you just experienced a 45-minute album.

Further adding to its greatness, Legends of the Fall has no skips. The project opens up beautifully with “Beef N Broccoli”, a nice warm-up freestyle by Draft over velvety smooth lo-fi production. Things immediately heat up, with “Double My Double”, “East Atlanta Fish Market”, and “Earth, Wind, and Fire” all fighting for top spots on my smoke and drive playlist. Followed by a thought-provoking interlude, solid guest appearances, and top-tier lyrical content through and through, Legends of the Fall checked every single box.

Last, but certainly not least, the production of Legends of the Fall was the real MVP. Handled solely by Atlanta’s own HazeSoFamous, the project’s production was soulful, dynamic, entrancing, and emphatic all at once. Still, with all that being said, this description gives his efforts no real justice. You’ll just have to experience it for yourself.
