— Just one month after their last collab, J Nolan and DopeNorTeria team up yet again for their latest single, “Self Love”.
Rapper, J Nolan, and production duo, DopeNorTeria, clearly have a ton of chemistry and they appear to have found their stride together. Following the release of their instant southern classic, “Lanta Sht” last month, J Nolan and DopeNorTeria return with a new single titled, “Self Love”.
While the subject of the song is self-explanatory, J Nolan’s prolific wordplay makes “Self Love” an engaging listen from start to finish. Not only does he drop gems regarding the importance of keeping your spirits high for the sake of self worth; he also does a masterful job at painting a picture of self worth that you can vividly see in your own mind. Still, while using his extensive lyrical arsenal and even referencing past experiences that brought him to this point, J Nolan was able to sum up the essence of “Self Love” with his short and sweet hook, “Peep the je ne sais quoi, feel the vibe. I’m just grateful that I’m still alive. I thank God.”
As usual, DopeNorTeria came through with top-tier production and added elements to the song that would likely be missing without them. First and foremost, the duo’s use of lush and airy lo-fi productionwas perfect for the subject matter with DopeNorTeria even electing to remove the drums almost completely at times to keep the mood of the song light. Furthermore, DopeNorTeria’s production on “Self Love” allowed J Nolan to hit certain pockets and deliver two exceptionally dynamic verses.
With “Lanta Sht” and “Self Love” dropping just about a month apart, one could assume that we’ll be hearing more from J Nolan and DopeNorteria sooner than later. Nonetheless, they haven’t missed yet, so we can only hope.
