— Southern-bred lyricist Miles Stone delivers his latest project in the form a 5-track EP titled, Country Black Man.
If you’re unfamiliar with undeniably dope wordsmith, Miles Stone then now is the perfect time to catch up. Originally repping the great state of North Carolina, this proud southern lyricist currently makes his home in Hip-Hop’s current hub — Atlanta, GA. While here, Miles Stone has quickly established himself as one of the city’s more respected underground talents releasing quality records, tearing up performance stages, and even appearing on Episode 23 of our very own More Bars Please Freestyle Series. Today, his stock rises yet again with the release of his highly-anticipated EP, Country Black Man.
Miles Stone set quite the tone to kick off the project, starting with his previously released 2020 single, “Blackman.” While speaking on the many trials and tribulations Black men have historically endured up until this very day, Miles also makes it clear that there’s no stopping us. Despite hardship, inequality, and constant disrespect, Black men continue to — not only survive, but thrive.
He follows up “Blackman” with the more upbeat, “Flip Sum” — a perfect transition from the opening track as he motivates his listeners to out and hustle regardless of the circumstances. He even challenges those who unnecessarily find themselves moving towards less than legal means of income while those who have been forced into that lifestyle try to find a way out.
On the next track “Missed Calls,” Miles Stone provides a laid-back vibe as he lightly croons and weaves in-and-out of captivating cadences over a silky smooth instrumental.
What comes out of the speakers next may very well be the best song on the entire project. Equipped with a hypnotic instrumental led by a groovy bass melody, “Mixed Emotions” is a masterfully constructed track from start to finish. Miles uses his distinctively precise rapid-fire flow to disseminate his incredibly insightful and introspective lyrics while adding the perfect touch of elegance with an exceptional female vocalist on the hook.
The final track, “South Story”, is a strong closer to say the least. With emphatic 808s, a mesmerizing chorus, and, of course an impressive lyrical showing from Miles Stone, its only downside is that it indicates the album’s unfortunate ending.
All in all, Country Black Man is a great showing for the North Carolina native with this being his first official project since 2018’s Trip. Still, with a runtime just over 15-minutes we can expect to see more from Miles Stone soon and we’re certainly looking forward to it.
