— This month, MIKE’s annual Young World Festival will be returning to Brooklyn with the help of some incredibly talented artists.
Young World, the free annual music festival hosted by MIKE, shares the final lineup for Young World III. Jay Critch, MAVI, and AKAI SOLO have been added to the previously announced lineup featuring Noname, Georgia Anne Muldrow, 454, DJ Elise, and MIKE. Young World III is presented in collaboration with NYC’s SummerStage and supported by Supreme. It takes place on July 15th, 2023 in Brooklyn.
Hosted at Herbert Von King Park in Bed-Stuy, the free festival will provide a day of fully accessible food, clothes, visual art, and music. All vendors will be Black-owned, with a majority being locally owned. Starting in 2019 with a multi-day event at the Abrons Art Center, the festival was forced to halt during 2020 and 2021, but returned last year at Herbert Von King Park in partnership with SummerStage. Last year’s 2022 festival featured Junglepussy, tisakorean, Jadasea, a headline performance from Slick Rick and more. Last year, MIKE spoke with Rolling Stone about the meaning behind Young World and the experience he aimed to cultivate.
Recently, MIKE released his seventh album in the last five years, Beware of the Monkey, via his own 10k label. The album was entirely self-produced under his dj blackpower alias and Interview Magazine called it “a triumph.” Beware of the Monkey draws its title from a horoscope MIKE read in a Chinese restaurant about the year he was born (year of the Tiger), which warned him of this future. He also just completed his Ipari Park Tour featuring support from 454, Niontay, Sideshow, Hi-Tech, Slauson Malone and more, which culminated with a sold-out hometown show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg earlier this month.
Stay tuned for more Young World III info and announcements coming soon.
