— Rapper Denzel Curry officially releases the album version of King Of The Mischievous South.
Earlier this summer, Denzel Curry released his King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2 mixtape, the official sequel to the mixtape and sound that helped launch his career. Now in its final form, the album features a reconfigured tracklist and 5 new songs, including “STILL IN THE PAINT” featuring Bktherula and Lazer Dim 700, released a couple of weeks ago. In addition to Bk and Lazer, the final album boasts new features from 454, Duke Deuce, Sauce Walka, Key Nyata, and more. Alongside the release, Denzel shared a new music video for the melodic standout solo cut “GOT ME GEEKED,” which sounds like nothing Denzel has ever released.
Last week Denzel made a surprise appearance on Kai Cenat’s Twitch livestream to much fanfare and made his Camp Flog Gnaw debut live from Los Angeles this past weekend. He’s been everywhere this year — in the lead-up to the release of the Vol 2. mixtape in July, Denzel made waves on social media with “HOT ONE” featuring A$AP Ferg and TiaCorine, as well as with his three-beat medley group performance featuring Ferg, Tia, Key Nyata, and PlayThatBoiZay with On The Radar. A few weeks later, Denzel debuted his second single, “BLACK FLAG FREESTYLE,” featuring That Mexican OT with a From The Block live performance. Denzel and PlayThatBoiZay also premiered their “HOODLUMZ” verses live in London on BBC Radio 1’s Rap Show. Last month to ring in the announcement, Denzel hosted a Club Mischievous night and livestream via On The Radar live from Mexico City. Since the mixtape’s release, Curry has experienced a staggering uptick in listeners and followers.
Given the project’s sound and the homage it pays to the musical heritages of the South — from Memphis to Houston and Curry’s own South Florida — its features include the region’s greats, both old and new, as well as others whose style is indebted to the South’s musical legacy. Memphis veteran stalwarts Juicy J and Project Pat, along with Duke Deuce, Texas’ Sauce Walka, Maxo Kream, Slim Guerilla, That Mexican OT, and Mike Dimes, North Carolina’s TiaCorine, Georgia’s 2 Chainz, Lazer Dim 700, and Kenny Mason and Central Florida’s 454, Ski Mask The Slump God and PlayThatBoiZay, as well as Ty Dolla $ign, Armani White, A$AP Ferg and A$AP Rocky all make appearances across King Of The Mischievous South.
