— Ahead of Lyrics to GO, Vol. 3, rapper, songwriter, and producer, Kota the Friend pens an open letter to his own fear in his latest single, “Dear Fear”.

Kota the Friend has been on quite the run since his January 2021 project, Lyrics to GO, Vol. 2, and his March 2021 collab project, To Kill a Sunrise, alongside Statik Selektah. He kept himself busy with loosies and features but hit a particularly hot streak in the latter part of the year, averaging roughly two songs a month since September 2021. Now ahead of his highly anticipated Lyrics to GO, Vol. 3 project, Kota delivers an introspective new record, “Dear Fear”.

While we attempt to improve ourselves in the new year, it seems that Kota the Friend is doing the same. Simply put, “Dear Fear” is a moment of self-reflection and potential self improvement in song form as Kota looks back on the many things that fear has kept him from. Still, Kota’s ability to convey so many thoughts and perspectives while pulling from such personal subject matter makes songs like “Dear Fear” so powerful and relatable.

The uplifting production, handled by Mike Baretz and e madonna, is absolutely awe-inspiring to say the least. The somber piano melody, warm basslines, calming drum cadences, and everything in between set the perfect stage for Kota the Friend’s inspirational delivery.
