— Def Jam artist, Saint Bodhi, has released her latest single, “Heaven is Real”, following her March project, Women of Def Jam: Saint Bodhi.

For those who may be unfamiliar, Saint Bodhi is one of the more unique and versatile artists in position to stake a major claim to the mass mainstream market. The singer/songwriter is not only special in that her music is one-of-a-kind, but she pulls from an interesting mix of influences that can easily have you comparing her to your favorite rapper one minute, then your favorite R&B crooner the next. This time around, Saint Bodhi has tapped into the latter with her profound new single, “Heaven is Real”.

“Heaven is Real”, produced by Theron “Neff-U” Feemster and Snipe Young, features a more somber mood than that of her most recent project. The mellow bassline and light percussion give off poetry slam vibes — the perfect backdrop for what Saint Bodhi does next.

The first line of the song, which ends up being the chorus, is chilling to say the least. The singer’s soft and sultry voice would be more than enough to evoke that response, but she takes it a step further with lyrics that could easily be the topic of college think-pieces singing,

“I feel that Heaven is real,

But the devil’s outside in a brand new Porsche trying to make a deal.

I see the streets are paved with gold,

But when the crackhead is dropping needles, no one knows.”

Saint Bodhi proceeds to sing about the importance of understanding self-worth while navigating a world that devalues Black people (more specifically Black women) and comes with unnecessary hardships at every turn. All in all, resilience is key, and it’s always worth it to keep fighting because, in the end, ‘heaven is real’.
