— Atlanta, GA native, A.Young, delivers his latest EP and second project of 2021 titled, Something To Quarantine To.
Rapper A.Young, known to some as “OneLove”, has had quite a busy year. Following his 2020 offering, Ghosts Can Hoop, in January 2020, A. Young took a bit of a hiatus before coming back with JUST WORKING OUT this past February. Now, to our delight, the enlightened lyricist has doubled back with another dope project titled, Something To Quarantine To.
With Something To Quarantine To, A.Young delivered a full course meal in the form of an 8-track 22-minute appetizer. From top to bottom, the EP covered all bases in regards to its content, production, concepts, and overall theme.
For starters, A.Young opens the project with spoken word by none other than Atlanta legend, Big Rube, who also recently appeared on the album of another Atlanta-bred lyricist. The first-generation Dungeon Family member set the tone of the project with his profound poetry and A.Young took that energy and ran with it.
Following the intro, A.Young boldly reintroduces himself to his listeners with his brash and animated delivery on “ONELOVE” before catching a mellow vibe on “INFINITE” featuring Kaja Brielle — the perfect track for a sunday morning smoke sesh. A.Young proceeds to use an incredibly popular Marianne Williamson quote famously recited by Rick Gonzalez in the 2005 film, Coach Carter, to set up what may be one of the more inspirational tracks on the project, “THE LIGHT” — a track A.Young performed ‘a cappella’ earlier this year for our More Bars Please! Freestyle series.
The second half of Something To Quarantine To, including the interlude, continued to impress all across the board with “PASSPORT BLUES” featuring Fred E.T. being the most undeniable banger on the project.
As far as production goes, Something To Quarantine To is a masterpiece thanks to executive producers Promise and Beatztrck. The use of wide ranging sonic elements is prevalent throughout the entire project making its cohesiveness that much more impressive. Furthermore, the use of skits and other non-musical audio elements keep the project engaging and fun.
All things considered, Something To Quarantine To is eerily reminiscent of classic albums from alternative Hip-Hop acts like A Tribe Called Quest, only with updated production and A.Young manning the bars by himself.
Nonetheless, Something To Quarantine To, is as unique a project as ever and serves as a great prelude to A.Young’s official album which is currently in the works.
Until then, check out the full project right here and be sure to follow A.Young on Instagram and Twitter to keep up with his latest moves.
