— Michael Aristotle delivers a message to his late aunt in the form of a highly introspective new single titled, “AUNTY”.
Aside from his contributions to the phenomenal East Chain Recordings compilation album, CAMP EAST, and his collab singles with Sam Silver and Money Makin’ Nique, Atlanta native Michael Aristotle has had a relatively quiet year. Still, with a tight grip on Atlanta’s Hip-Hop community, his faithful fans have been eagerly waiting on his next move. Now, following the recent announcement of his official return to the music scene, the East Chain co-founder has already dropped “AUNTY”, the first of 4 upcoming new tracks.
As incredible as “AUNTY” is as a record, the song seems to be more of a therapy session for Michael. For about a minute and a half, he speaks directly to his presumably late aunt as he gets a few things off his chest. He reminisces on some of their good times, gets closure on a few things left unsaid, and even speaks on some of his own shortcomings and regrets in their relationship — all to a somber, jazzy instrumental that is perfectly fitting for a moment of reflection.
Despite the personal nature of the song, “AUNTY” is as relatable as it gets. So many of us can understand what it’s like to lose someone unexpectedly and subsequently ponder on the many ‘what ifs?’. With the Holiday season upon us, these feelings can be that much more visceral, making the timing of such a record so impactful.
