— Jordan W. Carter releases the first music video off his Mr. Fun & Games EP, for the standout track, “TORTOISE, HARE, AND SMOKEY THE BEAR”.
Southwest Atlanta’s own, Jordan W. Carter, is a classically-trained musician and organizer that creates music from an ethic of radical love. Acknowledging that the rap industry is engineered to reward narratives of violence and trauma, Jordan is devoted to making black liberation music that simply feels good. Since exemplifying this so beautifully on his November 2021 project, Mr. Fun & Games, the now Brooklyn-based artist is back with its first official music video for the song, “TORTOISE, HARE, AND SMOKEY THE BEAR”.
Produced by KC Da Beatmonster, “TORTOISE, HARE, AND SMOKEY THE BEAR” consists of a number of unique elements that reflect Carter’s signature sound. With an eclectic musical upbringing that not only includes many regional influences, but also healthy doses of rock, jazz, and classical music, Jordan W. Carter felt right at home rapping over the angelic harp melody fused with trap drums.
When speaking on the release, Jordan says,
“This is a playfully erotic stoner’s anthem that is both ‘show-offy’ and witty – similar to the wit displayed by the hare in Brer Rabbit in Songs of the South. The song has playful trickster vibes like it’s rapped by a young trap rabbit hopping along in the forest kissing everyone on the cheek and never forgetting to inquire if they need to buy weed.”
The music video features Jordan alongside some friends as he charismatically performs his lyric-laden verses and effortlessly switches flows, deploys his clever wordplay, and overall displays his evident starpower.
