While Benny the Butcher has been active in the game since dropping Burden of Proof in 2020, we have been patiently waiting for his sequel to his breakout classic album, Tana Talk 3. The project has been teased for over two years, even rapping, “Just wait for Tana Talk 4”, over Westside Gunn’s classic track, “Kool G”. That was 2019.
Finally in 2022, it seems we will be getting the anticipated sequel after the release of the first single for TT4, titled “Johnny P’s Caddy.” The track has a recipe for a classic, with production from The Alchemist and a feature from superstar MC, J. Cole. While we have become accustomed to Alchemist and Benny working together, the Griselda member linking with Cole is a collaboration that immediately sparked buzz, especially after the two were seen together at Cole’s “Off-Season Tour” show in Detroit on Oct. 26, 2021.
To no one’s surprise, the track was executed to perfection. Alchemist delivers a beautifully looped beat that effortlessly compliments the top-tier verses from both MC’s. Both verses are filled with superb wordplay, metaphors, and lyrics that downgrade the trend of lying in music. Cole’s verse begins with, “On the night I was born, the rain was pouring. God was crying,” which adds an extra layer to the perception of the song given that it was released on his birthday.
As for the track title, Benny states that ‘Johnny P’ is his father and that he had a Cadillac that was a trophy to Benny, as stated in one of his recent Instagram posts.
“Johnny P, that’s my pops… Someone who instilled pride in me early when I was young. Cadillacs, cars, and jewelry, stuff like that were like trophies. He was always known for having a big, shiny Cadillac.”
With the first single out of the way, it seems that the roll out for Tana Talk 4 is underway. A video for the single is also out now. Even though there is no release date for the project, this track is certainly building a buzz for it. If this track is indicative of the rest of TT4, then the Butcher has another classic on the way.
