Last month, versatile creator Open Mike Eagle launched season 3 of his critically acclaimed podcast, What Had Happened Was, alongside legendary A&R/producer Dante Ross. Now, he’s back with a new collaborative single, “Multi-Game Arcade Cabinet”, featuring lyricists R.A.P. Ferreira, Still Rift, and Video Dave.
“Multi-Game Arcade Cabinet” is a perfect treat for Hip-Hop purists and alternative rap fans alike. Courtesy of Illingsworth, the production feels both nostalgic and refreshing as it incorporates classic video game sounds, groovy basslines, and organic drum patterns resulting in a uniquely beefy lo-fi production.
Lyrically, this team of wordsmiths pull no punches as they attack the beat with reckless abandon. Immaculate timing, impeccable flows, and supreme wordplay are all on full display in “Multi-Game Arcade Cabinet” and there’s absolutely no debate about it.
When discussing the track, Open Mike Eagle stated,
“My apartment was a dream dungeon. Myself and my two brothers Dave and Rift started making product in my dining room every week. One day R.A.P. Ferreira and a mystery brother came through. We put on an Illingsworth beat and we all made product together. The mystery brother’s product made us all cry so we took his part off and slid the rest back together. We did something different with the mystery brother’s part. You’ll understand later when we show you the tape.
Me and Dave are going to Europe and Rift might pop up too. Whenever Rift is there we’ll stop what we’re doing and show everybody some of the tape. There are a lot of new products. I cried making [them].”
In addition to the new track, Open Mike Eagle has officially announced that he will be embarking on a 17-date European tour run this spring with stops in London, Manchester, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, and more. Tickets are available at Open Mike Eagle’s official Tumblr site.
