— Multi-instrumental duo The DRs have released their new single “Playing Games” ahead of their upcoming album, Songs Before Therapy.
Los Angeles-based alternative Hip-Hop duo, The DRs, have had a hell of a year. For starters, group member Freaky Rob got the once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform alongside Kendrick Lamar at the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show as his longtime go-to guitarist. Still, as a group, The DRs have been able to maintain a steady flow of music since releasing “Out Of My Hands” back in February. Now, following last month’s single, “Good Thing”, the up-and-coming duo have already returned with a new joint titled, “Playing Games”.
On “Playing Games”, members D. Phelps and Freaky Rob switch up the pace as Rob takes center stage as both a guitarist and vocalist, showcasing his subdued vocals on the soulful track. The tender and optimistic single finds the artists ruminating over an apparent lover who continues to ‘play games’ despite their obvious feelings for each other — highlighting the importance of honest self-expression in maintaining a healthy relationship.
Phelps comes through and provides a bit of edge with his rhythmic staccato bars, further demonstrating the pair’s versatility as they float over the peaceful, bass-heavy groove.
The multifaceted and incredibly talented duo prepare listeners for their upcoming debut EP, Songs Before Therapy, set to release on May 12th as they continue to heal listeners with their music.
