— Atlanta rapper and producer Wan Geez delivers his new self-produced project and his first of the year, Almost There II.
Since the release of his debut beat tape, Carport, back in late 2021 as well as his appearances on Klassic Kell’s “Bogus Conversations” and episode 33 of our More Bars Please series last year, Wan Geez has been relatively quiet. Still, despite his decision to take a step back, Geez has yet to disappoint when it’s time to deliver and this time is no different. In fact, it’s apparent that the rapper and producer has been in the lab seriously tightening up his skills with the release of his new EP, Almost There II.
The 7-track, 17-minute EP, produced almost entirely by Wan Geez himself, is a concise yet stellar offering that serves as a peek into Geez’s ongoing growth. Song after song, he seamlessly blends an assortment of soulful samples, jazzy drum cadences, and perfectly-placed 808s resulting in a project that is both energetic and hypnotic — an incredibly impressive feat for a relatively new producer.
When it comes to the raps, there isn’t much to say other than Wan Geez is undeniably dope. Not only did he carry his own weight having no features aside from frequent collaborator Klassic Kell on “all i need”, but he also used this project to tap dance all over his competition. Whether he’s dropping lines like, “I’m busy doin’ numbers, workin’, I upped my budget. Sh*t talkin’ so repugnant, these n*ggas ain’t worth discussion,” or simply alluding to his lyrical dominance with his empathic bars, Wan Geez continues to reach new heights on Almost There II.
While the entire Almost There II EP is definitely a ‘no-skip project’, stand out tracks would include “high maintenance,” “all I need,” and “goodfella freestyle.”
But, don’t take my word for it. Listen to Almost There II right here. Also be sure to follow Wan Geez on his official Instagram and Twitter pages to keep up with his latest moves.
