Last summer, Atlanta-based rapper Keem delivered his highly-impressive 12-track project Glass Ceiling and received high praise from many of its listeners. Still, Keem isn’t one to let his foot off the gas regardless of the reception of his last release. With that being said, it was only a matter of time before we got something special from him. Well, that time has arrived with the release of his biggest single to date, “How I Am.”
“How I Am” is a heartfelt track, featuring renowned lyricist Mick Jenkins, that finds both rappers highlighting the many struggles artists face on a daily basis when they stay true to their morals and ethics.
Over a velvety smooth and soothingly entrancing production by Danny Lewie, Keem effortlessly deploys an equally hypnotic flow while delivering soul clutching lyrics before Mick Jenkins comes through and caps off the single with an incredibly emphatic verse packaged in a passionately poetic cadence.
Last fall, without even knowing it, we actually got a sneak peek of Keem’s verses when he appeared on episode 60 of our More Bars Please series. While performing acapella, Keem was able to give a compelling performance using his masterful delivery and stage presence. Now that we hear the record these lyrics were destined for, both the new single and live performance are that much more captivating.
As his most sincere release of his career, “How I Am,” is likely to be a launching pad for Keem’s upcoming moves — something we definitely look forward to.
