Earlier this week, Grammy-nominated rapper Buddy took to Instagram to reveal he is back with new music. In a short clip he is bearing his soul and delivering vulnerable lyrics in a studio session. Today, he’s finally returned with his first single of the year called “Free My Mind,” out now via EMPIRE. The theme of the single is self-reflection as he unveils a more intimate side of himself to his devoted audience.
“Free My Mind” arrives one year after Buddy’s sophomore album Superghetto — a 10-track project where he showcased his eclectic sound and real life influences growing up in Los Angeles. With nearly 50 million streams on the project and features from Tinashe, T-Pain, and Ari Lennox, he garnered press attention from Billboard, Pitchfork, Clash, Vibe, The Fader, and more.
Hailing from the city of Compton, Buddy has built a formidable career to date having amassed 470 million global streams to date.. He’s toured across North America, performed NPR’s Tiny Desk, The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and played a major role in the Grammy-nominated Revenge of the Dreamers III album in 2020.
