— Following a run of exhilarating singles like “Real B*tches” and “Yayo,” Harlem’s Antha Pantha delivers her long-awaited debut album, Feline Season.
Attacking the mic with no remorse using her pugilistic rhymes and infectious melodies, Antha Pantha infuses New York hip-hop with Big Cat Energy. The Harlem native arrives in full force with Feline Season, her hard-hitting, outrageous, and addictive debut album. Released via A$AP Ferg‘s new label Sewer Sounds, the album mixes the aggressive stylings of her hometown with the campy elegance and deep soulfulness of the Blaxploitation era.
“My album encapsulates all the energy I’ve absorbed throughout my life, infused with my own essence. There are elements that cater to everybody, but I made this album for me. If it resonates with you, that’s amazing. If not, that’s alright too — because it’s not about you. It’s like watching a movie about an adult’s journey, and it’s bound to entertain.” — Antha Pantha
With assistance from producers including frequent collaborator Tweek Tune (Quavo, Lil Tjay & more), Antha switches from style to style. Opening track “Sphinx” sets the tone, with a ferocious, percussive attack that acts as a mission statement for the project (and Antha’s “Lady Sphinx“ persona), for the “other sh*t” that Antha is on as she raps,
“Ferg put me on, now I’m ready to go/
From Krypton with the UFOs/
Egypt, where I got my gold/
On the Pyramids, Cleopatra glow.”
The rest of the project continues her world tour, as she takes a synth-heavy trip through Vice City in “Miami,” crawls through an uptown underworld in the eerie “PLNT HRLM,” and perfects a club rap anthem with the sultry “Cat Walk.”
The new album also introduces the world to Antha’s alter ego, Sexual Vanilla, a blaxploitation-esque throwback character that allows Antha to flex her vocal chops and indulge in her wildest fantasies. Sexual Vanilla’s energy informs some of the finest Feline Season songs, including “Yayo,” the confrontational single with a video that recalls New York’s hedonistic Studio 54 era. After letting his protege take centerstage, Ferg emerges to spar with Antha, as the two Harlemites channel a classic Cash Money flow on the relentless closing song “Knees and Elbows.” Home to additional singles like “Real B*tches,” “B.W.A.,” and the buzzing local hit “Brick By Brick” ft. Huntdawgg, Feline Season is available on all platforms via Sewer Sounds/ADA.
With Feline Season in full swing, Antha Pantha announces herself as a prodigious talent that deserves attention. Stay tuned…it’s about to be the Year of the Cat.
