— Houston-based Hip-Hop artist, AJ McQueen, continues on his prolific run as he releases his latest single, “Routine”, with a new visual to match.
Originally a product of St. Louis, Missouri, AJ McQueen, is undoubtedly on a path to stardom. The soulful midwest native perfectly blends his consciousness and personal testimony with his supreme lyricism and creativity to produce uniquely inspiring content. Now, after already releasing four singles, including June 2021’s “Piece of Your Mind” feat. Mochii, AJ McQueen doubles back with “Routine” — his fifth single of 2021.
“Routine” opens up with a fitting sample and a soul-soothing piano loop just before AJ McQueen enters the picture. In signature ‘AJ McQueen-fashion’, the MC immediately begins dropping heavy gems while making sure not to take away from the vibe. McQueen delivers his message in a thoughtful, poetic manner, being sure to deploy his flow in a way that would best compliment the instrumental — all while coaching up his listeners on the importance of tightening up your “routine”.
The music video, directed by Jarvis Parsons and AJ McQueen himself, is a simple one-shot film set in an environment equally as peaceful and uplifting as the song. With incense burning in the foreground next to a bottle of McQueen’s Hydrate Hill alkaline water and a stack of ‘must-read’ books, the stage was perfectly set for AJ McQueen to get some insightful bars off his chest in a visually pleasing manner.
