Coming off of an incredibly eventful week, Indiana’s first Grammy®-nominated rapper and budding actor, Freddie Gibbs, stars in the newly revealed trailer for the upcoming feature film Down With The King, officially marking his film debut.
Co-written by Xabi Molia and Diego Ongaro and directed by Ongaro, the movie features Freddie Gibbs as rapper Money Merc who finds himself being sent to a small town farm community by his manager in order to escape the fast paced and often overwhelming routine of celebrity status and the music industry. The story is an intimate and contemplative journey that follows Merc as he submerges himself into a grounded rural life while using his retreat to ultimately contemplate reconnecting with his music, his fans and his past life as recurring thoughts of retirement come to surface causing him to eventually announce the end of his career.
Down With The King features a standout cast including Bob Tarasuk, Sharon Washington, and Jamie Neumann in addition to Freddie’s contribution as an Executive Producer. The film is set for digital and video on demand release this summer on June 28th.
Down With The King has also been selected as a critic’s choice by 26 film festivals including a bid as part of the ACID lineup at Cannes Film Festival, the Audience Award Winner at Poland’s American Film Festival, and the Grand Prize winner at the Deauville American Film Festival, among others set to take place this year.
This year, Gibbs made the jump to the silver screen, starring in the award-winning forthcoming feature film Down with the King, and appearing on TV shows like 50 Cent’s Power Book IV: Force and Peacock’s Bust Down with his work on the later receiving rave reviews.
Vulture recently proclaimed,
“Freddie Gibbs has always been funny. As a rapper, his lyrics frequently feature the unexpected word choices, clever turns of phrase, and precise observations of a seasoned comic.”
With more film and tv roles on the horizon and his Warner Records debut album on deck, Freddie Gibbs is ready to roll the dice!
