— On November 18th, Atlanta got quite the treat when hip-hop aficionados Earl Sweatshirt, The Alchemist, MIKE, & Black Noi$e performed live at renowned concert venue, The Masquerade.
Saturday nights in Atlanta are exactly what you’d expect them to be — action packed to say the very least. With foot traffic galore, restaurants packed to the brim, and the city’s movers and shakers bouncing from event to event, finding the perfect move can be a bit overwhelming. The Saturday before last, on the other hand, was a bit different if you’re a hip-hop purist. That Saturday there was only one place to be — at The Masquerade for the 6th stop of Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist’s Voir Dire Tour.
Before anyone rapped a single bar, Detroit producer and DJ Black Noi$e got the party started with a mix guaranteed to make you hit a move or two. Delivering a multi-genre mix including elements of hip-hop, house, R&B, and even gospel, the midwest native struck every possible cord as he primed the crowd for a stellar show.
The first rapper to hit the stage was New York-based rapper MIKE. Performing a series of his most notable records — including a few from his acclaimed 2022 mixtape Beware of the Monkey such as “nuthin i can do is wrong” & “Stop Worry” featuring Sister Nancy — MIKE could do no wrong. Still, the gifted wordsmith left everything on the stage as he showcased his genuine passion for music, performance, and the amazing experiences he shares with fans at live shows.
Following MIKE was none other than bonafide hip-hop legend The Alchemist. With a career that spans over twenty years, having the chance to see the iconic producer, DJ, and rapper do his thing live was beyond awe-inspiring. Playing classic tracks from his days working with Mobb Deep, his latest placement on Drake’s For All The Dogs: Scary Hours Edition, and tracks from his latest joint project with Larry June just to name a few, The Alchemist had the building absolutely rocking.
Last, but not least, was the one and only Earl Sweatshirt. Coming out to a roaring crowd, Earl kept his poise and delivered his verbose raps like the consummate professional he is. While performing an assortment of tracks from VOIR DIRE while also getting into some of his classics, Earl’s signature charm and sense of humor was also on full display making the night that much more memorable.
